30 miles east of Sacramento and 70 miles west of South Lake Tahoe, Cameron Park has grown to become a popular residential area. Once known for Sam's Town where tourists stopped on road trips to Lake Tahoe, the gold country hills are wheat to gold colored most of the year in this El Dorado County community sharing the California Gold Rush history with places such as Placerville.

Though relatively new, Cameron Park's history dates back to 1848 and the discovery of gold. Glimpses of the past include grinding rocks and burial mounds of the Niesnan branch of the Maidu Indians, and some structures of the Skinner Winery from 1865 (corner of Green Valley Road and Cameron Park Drive.)

Today travelers often stop to eat a meal, buy coffee, and enjoy several outdoor natural places such as the championship golf course and recreational lake.

Cameron Park Country Clubfeatures a golf course with a reputation of being one of the most challenging in Northern California. Narrow fairways, fast greens, meandering streams, lakes and majestic oaks at 1,300 elevation provide esthetics and challenges both. Open play is offered usually one day per week. Banquets and tournaments can also be arranged through the facility. The Jewel of the Foothills was created in 1962 by developer Larry Cameron and designed by well-known golf course architect, Bert Stamps. Operated as a non-profit private country club, it is a regulation par 72 course. cameronparkcc.com

Cameron Airpark Estatesis one of the attractions to buy property and reside just outside the California State Capitol city of Sacramento. Pilots can commute from home to destination—wide streets double as taxiways leading from the homes to the adjacent airport.

Cameron Park Lakeincludes a sandy beach, a nature trail encircling the lake, picnic areas, boat rentals, tennis courts and playgrounds. Popular for fishing, the lake is stocked with bluegill, bass, and black crappie.

Summer Spectacularincludes a world-class fireworks show each summer. See the Shingle Springs Cameron Park Chamber of Commerce for details and dates. sscpchamber.org
