El Dorado Hills east of Sacramento is located in the region known as the historic California Gold Country. Today the sit has sprung up and grown into a popular residential area accessible to the California State Capitol and many attractions and museums that fill this history-rich area.

The Northern California community is situated in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains between the San Francisco Bay area and Lake Tahoe in El Dorado County.

A California Welcome Center offers one great reason to stop and collect tourist information during your road trip. Located at 2085 Vine Street, Suite 105, El Dorado Hills (In Town Center), next to the El Dorado Hills Chamber, the Welcome Center is one of over a dozen such buildings and facilities stocking tons of free literature, including the California State Visitors Guide with a great map.

What to see:

Apple Hillis host to a variety of activities at fruit orchards, pumpkin farms, bake shops, craft fairs and breweries. It is located nearby and provides an annual event that is so popular, it sells out. Visit during the apple and harvest seasons to enjoy the many foods, samplings, and sales of fresh produce purchased direct from the farms.

Folsom Lakeis one of the most popular recreational areas in the state and includes around 70 miles of lake front. The history of the park is incredibly interesting. Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park brought electricity 22 miles downstream to Sacramento for over 100 years. The plant was the nation's first power system to provide high-voltage current over long distance lines for major city and industrial use. An historic 1893 Truss Bridge upriver of Rainbow Bridge and the Folsom Powerhouse serves as a bicyclist-pedestrian bridge linking the existing American River Bike trail to the Folsom Historic District and the powerhouse.
