Californians are in love with their cars and with good reason. Most of the state offers weather that’s good to cars, relatively speaking. With rarely any snow and resultant salty roads, cars fair much better and can last seemingly forever. Also, you can’t ignore the fact that residents spend more time behind the wheel than in any other state, and for those hard on their luck the car may even become the roof over one’s head at night.
Car shows are a passion that goes well with loving cars — and some people dedicate a portion of their lives to organizing these events. Pictured is Tom Long, a Southern Californian who’s produced the annual Beachcruiser Meet for nearly 20 years in Huntington Beach. When he started the event he was steady on his feet and didn’t need a cane. He exemplifies the people (mostly guys) who lovingly organize car shows that bring so much joy to others!
