Cee Lo Green Launches Free Concert Series Universal CityWalk

Award winning rapper, singer and song writer, Cee Lo Green, made a musical guest appearance recently at a free night-time concert to unveil Tower 5, a high tech light show and stage design at Universal Studios Hollywood's free admission CityWalk Summer Concerts, called Plugged IN. Over 20 free concerts this summer will showcase three types of acts on Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday nights. Local up & coming bands on Fridays, known bands on Saturdays, and Latin bands on Sundays, perform at the new, dazzling stage. We've checked out concerts throughout California and this series ranks among the top, free summer concerts, we've seen.

Cee Lo Green is best known for his hit "Crazy" and is receiving great reviews and awards for a 2010 release, FU. The son of ordained ministers, Green grew up in Atlanta as Thomas DeCarlo Callaway. He lost both parents at a fairly young age, as he transitioned from church gospel and inspirational hymns to hip hop and rap, quickly becoming a success with Goodie Mob. Never short on projects, Green works as a judge for the popular tv show, The Voice, among his many projects.

Universal Studios sought to make a splash with their new acoustics, sound system and stage lighting towers that will be used for concerts throughout the seasons. The annual summer concerts are a popular attraction, and worth a visit to the shopping and dining section of the theme park where admission is free. Massive crowds of fans turned out to listen to the first concert of Plugged In musical series. CityWalk at Universal Studios Hollywood, features many popular restaurants, comedy clubs and great night life.

Celebrity musicians and comedians often drop in unannounced to perform at venues such as Jon Lovitz Comedy Club. CityWalk offers free summer concerts, but also features top acts at Gibson Amphitheatre.

The park is gearing up for Halloween with calls for entries to the horror film shorts (3 minutes approx.) contest. Some consider Universal the leader in Halloween scare attractions with ever-changing themed scares tied to many of its movie productions. Stay tuned for the darker side of night after summer is gone. The last free concert of the summer season ends on August 28, 2011. Here's the full list of CityWalk Plugged IN summer concerts.
