Cathedral City, CA Travel, Photos Information and News

Cathedral City is located in eastern Riverside County approx. 110 miles east of Los Angeles and 115 miles northeast of San Diego. As the 2nd largest city in the Coachella Valley (permanent population of over 52,500) the desert community shares borders with Palm Springs to the west and Rancho Mirage to the east. 350 sunny days per year and incredibly dry, comfortable winters (November - March) make this a winter vacation destination and popular winter stay for snow birds escaping the ice elsewhere.

What is there to see & do in Cathedral City? There is plenty of art! Over a dozen public art installations are worth checking out. Town Square directly in front of City Hall features Fountain of Life, an award winning interactive fountain with a unique sprayground water element. This fountain attracts kids and adults to play in the water.

The beautiful Cathedral City Town Square features a uniquely designed, award-winning stone sculpture, the Fountain of Life, as well as bronze statues of film star, George Montgomery, and musician Buddy Rogers.

Some of the events held in Town Square are the Fountainworks Festival, Youth Festival, and the annual Tree lighting Event. Cathedral City values community and family, as evidenced by an award it won.

Cathedral City was awarded American City & County's annual excellence award for turning to local schoolchildren to help meet the city's yearly goal of diverting 50% of generated waste from landfills. SCRAP Gallery, a nonprofit Student Creative Recycling Art Project, offered innovative environmental programs that "place kids at the forefront of the city's mission to recycle and reuse discarded materials headed for the landfill.
