Lake Forest, Calif.
County: Orange
Established: 1991
Nearest beach: Laguna Beach 9 miles, 15-20 minutes

Lake Forest, California in Orange County is located in the southern region of the county not far from the Pacific Ocean cities of Laguna Beach, Dana Point and San Clemente. The City of Lake Forest includes houses built around an artificial lake, thus the name. Primarily residential, the city is located adjacent to the I-5 San Diego Freeway.

A relatively new city Lake Forest was established in 1991, carved out of a portion of El Toro. The pride and joy of the city is its parks. The 86-acre Lake Forest Sports Park and Recreation Center is one of the largest and newest sports parks in Orange County opened in late 2014. Another property of pride for locals is etnies Skatepark, one of the largest public skateparks with over 40,000 square feet of banks, rails, bowls and everything that skateboarders look for in a park.

Whiting Ranch and Heritage Hill historical park offer unique experiences that are far from new. In fact, Heritage Hill contains some of the oldest buildings in Orange County such as Serrano Adobe, El Toro School House, and St. Georges Episcopal Church. The beautiful, free admission park sits on a hill in an unlikely location behind a shopping center. From the park you can see equestrian trails and smell the stabling of horses.
