California cities that celebrate 100 years in 2016!
BLYTHE, CALIFORNIA July 21, 1916 | Riverside County
Blythe is located in Riverside County near the Arizona border. The desert city
in the Colorado Desert section of the Sonoran Desert averages 109 degrees
daytime high in July. Mellow, pleasant and sunny winter weather attracts
"snowbirds" escaping the freezing cold temperatures back East.
CARMEL BY THE SEA, CALIFORNIA October 31, 1916 | Monterey
County
Carmel is a popular tourist destination known for its stunning beaches with
white, sugar sand, pet-friendly accommodations, artist events and shops,
culinary excellence, golf resorts, and scenery too beautiful for words. It began
as an artist's mecca in the 1900s around the time the city was incorporated.
Today Carmel by the Sea has managed to retain its coastal charm befitting the
resting place of Fr. Junipero Serra who was canonized just a year before Carmel
celebrated its centennial.
CORTE MADERA, CALIFORNIA June 10, 1916 | Marin County
The wealthiest among Marin County cities has a charming and historic downtown
ideal for shopping. Nearly every location within town offers views of the
spectacular
Mt. Tamalpais, an iconic attraction for locals and visitors. While
the hotels are mostly business traveler style accommodations the homes that line
the banks of San Clemente Creek in San Francisco's bay make Corte Madera a
popular residential area.
MONTEREY PARK, CALIFORNIA May 29, 1916 | Los Angeles County
Monterey Park, a mere 10 miles from Downtown Los Angeles, combines commerce and
residential interests. It is not a wealthy area by any means but its residents
that are mostly of Chinese descent (in the largest such population by percentage
in the U.S.) are upwardly mobile. As Los Angeles matures and invests in its
downtown it is likely that Monterey Park home values will continue to rise.
California was founded in 1850 as a U.S. state. It's around 166 years old in 2016, and some cities in California were incorporated around that time, including eight cities that were incorporated earlier than the state. 58 counties and 482 municipalities make up the great state of California.
