New Historic Clothing Display in the Colorado House
The Old Town San Diego State Historic Park Period Attire program has launched a new display that highlights the cultural diversity in the history of the park using one of culture's best mediums -fashion! The new display in the windows of the Colorado House will rotate regularly to align with the themes of the 2022 California State Park's Culture and Heritage Calendar. The display launched in June, for instance, displayed clothes that would have been worn by stagecoach drivers such as the renowned Charley Parkhurst, which upon their death it was discovered Parkhurst was born a woman.
July: American Independence Day display
August: Women's Equality Day with a display featuring the Bloomer Costume made popular by women's rights activist and writer Amelia Bloomer
The event kicks off at 11 a.m. with live music, followed by patriotic speeches and flag raising ceremony. One of the highlights of the day is the annual Fourth of July parade around the plaza.
