August is the festive food month for festivals in California. Thanks to predictable weather, it's possible to host food events outdoors with very little concern that it will rain. From bananas to tomatoes, watermelon to wine, the August Food Festivals in California are delicious opportunities to sample, sip and meet new friends sharing a similar passion for food. Foodies love August, and they love California, one of the top producers of many crops.

Mammoth Festival of Beers & Bluesapalooza
Mammoth Lakes, California
Annual Mammoth Bluesapalooza and Festival of Beers Mammoth Festival of Beers includes the Grand Tasting from more than 60 of the country's best craft-breweries and performances by top blues performers.

SACRAMENTO: Festival of Cheese Sponsored by American Cheese Society as part of their annual convention, the public is invited to this event showing over 1,500 award winning cheeses! Time: 7-9:30 p.m. Ticket: $60.

Eat Drink SF Epic Food Festival
San Francisco, California
Highlighting local talent, regional ingredients and Northern Californian flair with tastings, classes, dinners, and events. During the weekend, a tented tasting pavilion will be housed at Fort Mason Center with culinary, wine and cocktail classes and events.

Long Beach Big Bite Bacon Fest at the Queen Mary,
40 bacon and pork infused dishes and 40 craft beers. Food served in several sessions with VIP early admission and option to simply sample food without beer. $35-70 approx.

OAKLAND Oaktown Throwdown Jefferson & 12th St. Downtown Oakland, CA a block from City Hall. A fully KCBS sanctioned barbecue competition, with Pro and Backyard events, plus a desert competition. The Oaktown Throwdown is part of Oakland's Art + Soul Festival. Pro Teams are encourage to sell bbq samples. Ribs, chicken, brisket and pulled pork (and Tri Tip for the backyarders)--Hella Yes! Plus People's Choice and Desert Competitions. A BBQ festival with pro and amateur teams competing in a KCBS sanctioned competition, with family entertainment, celebrity cook-offs, cooking demos, music, awards, barbecue vendors, Oakland BBQ history display, and beer and bourbon sales.
