The delightful penguin at the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific Penguin Habitat shown in photo glides with ease through a beautiful habitat dedicated to Magellanic Penguins, native to Chile and Argentina.

Magellanic Penguins are medium sized penguins weighing usually between 8 and 14 pounds. Males are usually larger than females, but both sexes have short necks and relatively large heads . Their wings are elongated and rigid in the water, providing excellent swim strength. Tails are short and wedge shaped, and feet are webbed and set back far back on the body.

Most Magellanic penguins have a white band on both sides of the head, which begins at the eye and joins at the neck. Also notice the mark on the underside, running down the flank of the body visible against the white feathers.
