Naples is a community in Long Beach, California built around manmade canals, and designed to emulate the charming lifestyle of Naples, Italy. Built in the early 1900s to attract visitors and ultimately to sell land, Naples once was tourist destination. The success in selling homes, however, may have led to its demise as an attractive place to visit and sty overnight. Today there are no hotels in Naples, Calif., though there are many multi-million dollar houses. Several decades ago Gondola Getaway was introduced as a ride you could book to ride around the canals of Naples, steered by a gondolier. It is one of Southern California's most fun boat rides to this very day.
