EUREKA, CALIF. — The top three things to see in Eureka include Blue Ox Millworks, Sequoia Park & Zoo and Carson Mansion.

Eureka is a storybook city surrounded by thousands of years of history, evidenced in the the tall, cool redwood forests that are part of or have touched our three favorite things to see in California's North Coast center of arts and entertainment. Although there are several fantastic museums in a list of must-see attractions, if we must pick three things we wouldn't want to miss when visiting Eureka, they would include Blue Ox Millworks, Sequoia Park & Zoo and Carson Mansion.

1. Blue Ox Millworks Park:A Victorian era working mill that preserves machinery and techniques now considered lost arts.

2. Sequoia Park & Sequoia Park Zoo:The 67-acres of magnificent old-growth redwoods adjacent to the oldest zoo in California are highlighted by a formal  flower garden featuring brilliant displays of  dahlias.

3. Carson Mansion & Pink Lady:  The Carson Mansion is one of the most photographed structures in the world.  A unique, fairy tale like structure with turrets, cupolas and gables was completed in 1885, containing three stories and 18 rooms. Another Queen Anne directly across the street was built in 1889 by William Carson for his son, John. The Pink Lady is smaller but was designed by the same famous architects, the Newsom Brothers.
