Autumn is a spectacular time to watch the migrating birds in California. In California birding opportunities abound, but there’s one special place that allows you to hop aboard the Osprey boat for a two hour guided tour of Cachuma Lake, located a short drive outside the city of Santa Barbara.

The tours are scheduled to go out daily and make for a unique change from city attractions during a Santa Barbara vacation. This October 2011, a special Halloween-themed program called “Creepy Creatures of Cachuma Lake” takes place Saturday, October 15, 2011, 11 a.m. at the Cachuma Lake Nature Center. Prepare for close encounters with owls, bats, scorpions, spiders, and more. Witches will be lurking about with punch, popcorn and face painting too. A mini-garage sale, which includes a variety of small items, including used books, will also be open in the nature center garage from 10:30-1:30. For more information call (805) 693-0691 or e-mail julie@clnaturecenter.org. Free with $10 per vehicle Park Admission. countyofsb.org.
