San Mateo's signature springtime community event and largest egg hunt has enjoyed more than 45 years of fun. Attended by hundreds of kids and families, the event is an Egg Hunt in Central Park. Well organized with an amazing itinerary, there are plenty of reasons to add this to your list of can't miss Easter celebrations. Here's why...

Eggstravaganza
Celebrating 47 years!
Join us for the 47th Annual Eggstravaganza event on Saturday, NOTICE!!! Due to predicted rain in parts of California on March 30-31, 2024, some events may be canceled or have a date or location change!

March 30, 2024 in Central Park from 9:00am-1:00pm! Enjoy a family-fun spring-themed event filled with live entertainment, egg hunts, photo opportunities, food trucks, a community parade and more!

Modifications and changes to this event may occur due to inclement weather.

Large Egg Hunt
For children ages 4-9 years old on the Fitzgerald Field. Limited wristbands will be available day-of the event. Please read our Large Egg Hunt FAQ’s for more information and to keep everyone safe and happy!

How to reserve a wristband for your child:
1) Create a free account on WebTrac if you don't already have one. See how to create a free account.

2) Register online at www.sanmateorec.org. See how to reserve a timeslot for the Large Egg Hunt.

Tuesday, March 12 at 12:00pm for San Mateo residents
Thursday, March 14 at 12:00pm for non-residents
Small Egg Hunt
Also known as the "Peter Rabbit's Playground", this egg hunt is catered to children ages 0-5 years old in the rose garden/gazebo area run by our Building Blocks Preschool staff! Please read our Peter Rabbit's Playground FAQ’s for the hunt to keep everyone safe and happy! Please note that Peter Rabbit's Playground will be closed from 10:00-11:00am in preparation of the parade. Registration is not required for this area.

Community Parade
Join  the wonderful parade! The categories go as follows:

Best Hat/Bonnet
Best Costume
Most Creative Float (wagon, bike, scooter, stroller)
Best Themed Group
Prizes will be given to one winner per category. Each person/group can sign-up for one category only. Onsite registration and waiver required for all participants. 
 

Entertainment on the Main Stage for some fun!

9:15am: Puppet Art Theater puppet show
10:30am: Community Parade  around the center lawn
11:15am: Lori & RJ  singing and dancing
12:15pm: Andy Z  singing and dancing
Take a photo with the Spring Bunny!
Take a FREE photo with the Spring Bunny on the Central Recreation Center Stage from 9am-10:00am, and 11am-1pm! The bunny will be participating in the parade and taking a quick carrot break from 10:10-11:00am. 

Find the Spring Bunny
Guess which parks the Spring Bunny is hopping around in to be entered into a raffle onsite at the event! Go to the Parks and Recreation Information tent to write down your park guesses correctly! Be sure submit your answer no later than 12:00pm day-of the event to qualify for the raffle. 

Pancake Breakfast
The Pancake Breakfast (also includes sausage and eggs) is being hosted by the Rotary Club of Peninsula Starlight inside of the Central Recreation Center from 9:00-11:00am. The fee for breakfast is $5 for children and $10 for adults.

Food/drink Vendors
Food trucks/carts will be available for purchase from 9:00am-1:00pm onsite at the event:

Churros El Guero (churros)
Bliss on Tap (coffee)
Curveball Slider Truck (burgers, fries)
Ta'Contreras (tacos, quesadillas)

Metered parking is available around the park and in downtown San Mateo on E. 5th Avenue under the tennis courts. 
 

Other fun entertainment in San Mateo include summer concerts in Central Park.

Easter Events are subject to change at discretion of event planners. It is your responsibility to confirm before going.
