INDIO, CALIF.-- Coachella Festival
is an annual, mega-music event and
festival held each April in Indio.
The three-day rock extravaganza with
more than 100 top bands playing
simultaneously on six separate stages
has seen nearly every great rock
performer-- Paul McCartney, Beck,
Coldplay, Madonna, Prince and countless
other musicians have appeared at the
event sometimes referred to as simply
the Coachella Festival or
Coachella Music and Arts Festival.
The event attracts around 180,000
music fans who camp, drive for the day,
or stay for the weekend at hotels in the
surrounding area.
The event usually opens in the a.m. -
and the music goes all day into the
night, normally closing around 1 a.m. on
Friday & Saturday, and midnight on
Sunday.
Part of the festival traditionally is
an art show held on the rambling
grounds. With many stages and musicians
performing simultaneously, there's a lot
to see and do and you aren't confined to
one single spot all day. The headliners,
however, do attract the largest
audiences and that's when you can expect
the massive audiences of traditional
stadium venue concerts.
Held at Empire Polo Club in Indio. Directions to the general festival parking and camping areas: 10 east, Exit Jefferson or Monroe go south and follow instructions on signs or parking personnel.
Temperatures during the festival are
normally in the mid-to high 80s during
the day and 60s at night. -
