Here are some exciting flower festivals and shows in California that you need to put on your calendar. These must-see events are showcase the beauty of the Golden State, whose state flower is the California Poppy.

The Coronado Flower Show is held in Spreckels Park in the center of Coronado's Village, along Orange Avenue, between 6th & 7th Streets. This is the largest flower show held under tents in the nation. Exhibits are placed inside tents surrounding a central gazebo, which becomes the stage for continuous entertainment, announcements and trophy presentations. Beer Garden, serving beer and wine. Take a break from the show, relax and listen to the entertainment from the bandstand.

SANGER The 25th Annual Blossom Day Festival (and Car Show) March 2, 2013 sanger.org
Downtown Sanger at 7th and N Streets. This event held the first Saturday in March takes place in conjunction with the Fresno County Blossom Trail, which is open from February to April. Arts and crafts booths, Parks & Recreation 10K Run, food booths, Measure C Special Ribbon Cutting for Academy Avenue, car show, entertainment, and kids activities, are part of the celebration in Sanger. All along the 62-mile self-guided Blossom Trail you will see the groves, orchards, vineyards, and wildflowers of California's heartland, featuring the natural beauty of Fresno County's agriculture and highlights historical points of interest.

JULIAN - Julian Women's Club Wildflower Show May 8 - 11, 2013

A wonderful spring event, The Julian Woman's Club hosts their annual Wildflower Show in the historical Town Hall in Julian, San Diego's popular four-season, mountain destination. For this spectacular event, members of The Julian Woman's Club gather wildflowers from all areas in and around Julian - including High Mountain, Desert, Oak and Pine Forest, Chaparral, and High Desert. The wildflower specimen's are then taken to the Town Hall where they are named and featured in a beautiful display. Another feature of the show includes a display of Native American uses for wildflowers. Crafts and T-shirts will also be available for sale.
Directions: Julian is located in the mountains of San Diego County on Highways 78 & 79. From San Diego you take Interstate 8 East to Highway 79. Go north on Hwy. 79 to Julian. It is a 1 1/2 hour drive from downtown San Diego. From LA, take Interstate 15 south to Hwy. 78. At Temecula, take Hwy. 78 to Julian, turning right in Santa Ysabel. It is a 4 hour drive from downtown LA.

Point Arena, CA - This spring, thousands of blooming daffodils in beautiful shades of yellow and orange will welcome in renewal of spring to the beautiful coastal hamlet of Point Arena, Mendocino County, CA. This blossoming, and the advent of spring itself, is the focal point of the Point Arena Merchants Association Annual Flower Power Festival and Daffodil Explosion. The multi-colored blossoms will brighten the drive along historic Highway 1 which becomes Main Street through Point Arena. An early sign of spring, daffodils will trumpet the season from scenic Arena Cove to the historic Point Arena Lighthouse.
Saturday's festival events include a Scrabble tournament, fresh Cioppino, local Gelato, Flea Market, Flower Arranging Challenge and Historic Town. Saturday's events end with a concert by The Sun Kings, a Beatles tribute band at Arena Theater. Come dressed in Beatles era costumes for contest prizes. The festival culminates Sunday at Point Arena Lighthouse for the Wind and Whales Celebration. Experience the thrilling climb to the top of the 115 foot tower; watch migrating gray whales and enjoy this dramatic setting for a kite flying demonstration by the Berkeley Kite Wranglers.
