Fountain Valley offers its residents nearly 10 times the required park space of three to five acres per thousand residents. 20 parks, a wide range of recreation programs for all ages, great weather throughout the year and affordable entertainment and exercise makes Fountain Valley a healthy place to visit or live. One of the City's greatest amenities is Mile Square Park, a 640 acres urban park with three regulation golf courses, two regulation soccer fields, baseball & softball diamonds, an archery range and a wilderness area. Also, there are two fishing lakes, concession operated bike and paddle boat operations, a wide expanse of picnic areas as well as numerous picnic shelters. Shelters serve a wide variety of visitors ranging from individuals to families and group organizations to annual company picnics. On the west side of Mile Square Park at 16400 Brookhurst Street the City owns and operates a 78-acre Recreation Center and Sports Park containing an indoor gym, racquetball courts, and community rooms, 15 ball fields, 3 dedicated softball fields, a walking trail, playground, and great lawn for community events such as the Annual Egg Hunt, Classic Car Show, Concerts in the Park and Tree Lighting Ceremony.

The course rating is 71.2 and it has a slope rating of 126. Designed by David A. Rainville, ASGCA, the Classic golf course opened in 1962.
