When you see the Kingsburg Swedish Festival Parade head down Draper Street in May look for quaint costumes, marching bands, a Maypole Dance –and, yes, even vaqueros wearing sombreros. The San Joaquin Valley town halfway between Los Angeles and Sacramento was 94% Swedes in 1921 — today 42% of the population is Hispanic according to the latest U.S. Census data. The Kingsburg Chamber of Commerce and City continue to promote ‘Little Sweden,’ for its business-friendly environment and European roots.
