On July 4 Tehachapi Hot Dog Festival brings back the popular wiener races. It’s great fun, but the big buns are turning out for the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, NY. California’s wiener winner, top dog, and greatest eater in history, Joey Chestnut, will be there, trying to beat his  world record 0f 73.5 hot dogs in 10 minutes! In an unprecedented eight-year run at the top of the Nathan’s Hot Dog World, Chestnut was undefeated through 2014. He regained the title in the 2016 Championship to earn his ninth victory.  Other eating awards: Hard boiled eggs, boysenberry pie, asparagus, Twinkies, tacos, tamales, gyros, gumbo and funnel cake. Hot dog lovers can be on the lookout this year for Nathan’s Hot Dogs at Gilroy Garlic Festival.
