What are you doing this weekend? Here are 50 Halloween events to check out in destinations not typically known for Halloween. Nearly every city in California is celebrating Halloween but some are truly Halloween destinations. If you host a Halloween festival that attracts 500,000 people, causing your city to swell to over 14 times its normal size, then you qualify as a Halloween destination. That city,West Hollywood, has been preparing for its signature event, Carnaval, for months. Always held on October 31, pets are to be left at home and children are not encouraged at this adult-oriented celebration.

San Diego also throws an adult-oriented street party with an added bonus. Eight city blocks of the authentic Gaslamp Quarter are roped off so liquor can be served to guests of the annual Monster Bash, which attracts thousands of party-goers clad in the most outrageous and sexiest costumes on the planet. On October 31 the public transportation system becomes taxed, much like West Hollywood, and your best bet for attending becomes booking a hotel room so you don't have to hassle with getting there, or heading home after drinking.

Long Beach, the 6th largest city in California, is a Halloween destination because of its multiple celebrations and attractions that continue for an entire month. From Dark Harbor on the Queen Mary to the biggest Halloween Pet Parade, Haute Dogs at Belmont Shore, Zombie Festival, Grave Tours and parties galore, the seaside Southern California destination attracts revelers from throughout the state.

Sacramento is a Halloween destination for its authentic Gold Rush era haunts and underground spaces. In addition, there are dozens of parties, including delightful train rides, a Zoo Boo, and the popular month-long Fright Planet at Cal Expo.

Universal City attracts travelers from around the globe for their Halloween Horror Nights event. With studios on site, the event offers (in our opionion) the best sci-fi themed experience you could imagine. Each year it changes with adaptions and recreations of famous slasher and horror flicks.

Anaheim not only features one of the largest and most unique Halloween Parades in all of the land, but it also has Disneyland with Mickey's Halloween Party going on for over a month.

Fairfield is candy central all year long but during Halloween the regular, free turn transforms into a haunted tour, entertaining guests from around the world. see jellybelly.com
