A week or so ago the National Christmas Tree at the White House in D.C. was lit. But closer to home in California there’s an annual tradition bestowed upon one of the state’s gems & icons — the Nation’s Christmas Tree — General Grant Tree. It’s not the oldest tree nor the biggest in the Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Forest, but it is truly a sight to behold. A ceremony and “Trek to see the Tree” sponsored by Sanger Chamber of Commerce on the 2nd Saturday in December, often is greeted with a snowy, white scene.
In addition to this beloved annual tradition, the California Capitol Christmas Tree is lit this week with Gov. Brown and his wife officiating.
Finally, Lighting of Christmas Tree Lane in Altadena is a special treat. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and also a California Landmark, approx. 135 Deodar Cedar trees create the oldest, large-scale outdoor Christmas display in the world!
