California Oktoberfests
California celebrates Oktoberfest annually with over 100 events ranging from 1 day festivals to weeklong and month-long seasons. From the delicious Oktoberfest foods to the great beers on tap, Oktoberfest is a season to savor and enjoy, then long for the rest of the year.
The World's Largest Oktoberfest (also world's largest folk festival) held September 19-October 4, 2026, takes place in Munich, Germany on the Theresienwiese. This 191st annual event lasting 16 days, kicks off with a parade, the bier barrel is tapped by Mayor Dieter Reiter on September 19, 2026 at 12 noon in the Schottenhamel Festival Hall. After the tapping ceremony, twelve gunshots are fired in front of the Bavaria to signal to the other festival tents that Oktoberfest is officially open and the beer can start flowing!
Organized by the City of Munich's Department of Labour and Economic Affairs, Clemens Baumgärtner is responsible for Oktoberfest operations. In the 17 festival halls with a total of around 120,000 seats, the special 13% alcohol Oktoberfest beers come from six traditional Munich breweries Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Löwenbräu, Paulaner, Spaten and Staatliches Hofbräuhaus.
